Walt Disney World Accessibility – Animal Kingdom – Part One

This week I am beginning our coverage of the wheelchair accessibility of Disney’s Animal Kingdom. This is quickly becoming one of my favorite parks. When we visited a few weeks ago we ended up at the park four times! It is a beautiful place and highly underrated in my opinion.

Discovery Island

There are lots of trails to explore that lead you around the Tree of Life and showcase a number of animals. Make sure to take the time to explore this area. All of the trails are wheelchair friendly.

It’s Tough to Be a Bug

This show takes place in a theater and has wheelchair seating in the back. There are some interactive elements so if you want to transfer from your chair to a seat just let a Cast Member know.

Camp Minnie-Mickey

You can meet Mickey, Minnie, Donald, and other Disney characters along the character greeting trails. Everything is wheelchair accessible.

The Festival of the Lion King

The wheelchair seating for this show is a little different, it is actually in the front of the seating areas. Since this show is pretty popular I recommend getting there early to ensure that you get wheelchair seating.

Rafiki’s Planet Watch and the Wildlife Express Train

To get to Rafiki’s Planet Watch, you take the Wildlife Express Train, which is wheelchair accessible and you are able to stay in your wheelchair. All of the animal attractions at Rafiki’s Planet watch are wheelchair accessible as well.

Africa

You will find the train to Rafiki’s Planet Watch in Africa as well as the Kilimanjaro Safaris and the Pangani Forest Exploration Trail.

Kilimanjaro Safaris

This is one of my favorite attractions. No two safaris are alike so its fun to ride multiple times. Wheelchair access is also great. There is a special safari jeep that allows you to stay in your wheelchair. You roll up a small ramp into the truck and then a Cast Member straps your wheelchair in because the ride can get pretty bumpy. There is also a handle on either side of you that you can use. I have always felt really secure and my wheelchair stays in place.

Pangani Forest Trail

The trail is wheelchair friendly and there are spots that you can see pretty much every animal. However if they are close to the fence it can be a little difficult because of the height of the fence.

Next time I will be covering the attractions in Asia and DinoLand. If you have any questions just leave me a comment! :)
